MBI awarded the funds through the Residential Retrofit Program , a statewide initiative that modernizes broadband infrastructure in housing communities which have been historically underserved by reliable connectivity. The awards build on MBI’s multi-year campaign to equip residents with fast and reliable service. “Digital connectivity is essential infrastructure,” said Massachusetts Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley . “By upgrading broadband in these communities, we are removing barriers to employment, entrepreneurship and education. We are connecting more residents to the jobs, training and innovation driving our economy.” “MBI is nearing its goal of ‘Internet for All’ by investing in the infrastructure residents need to use the internet effectively,” said MBI Director Michael Baldino . “These investments will enable residents of public and affordable housing to participate in essential activities such as working remotely, taking classes and accessing telehealth services.”  The Residential Retrofit Program is supported by the U.S. Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund  through the American Rescue Plan Act. As of 2026, the program announced investments of more than $75 million across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The current round of Residential Retrofit Program awardees is listed below.
