What is the Workforce Pell Grant?
The Workforce Pell Grant extends federal Pell funding, historically reserved for degree programs and longer certificates, to short-term career and technical training. Like a traditional Pell Grant, it is need-based aid that does not have to be repaid, and you apply for it through the FAFSA. The change matters most for fast, job-focused programs in fields such as information technology, data, and the skilled trades, where a credential can lead to work in a matter of months rather than years.
Who qualifies?
Two things have to line up: you and the program. You meet standard federal aid eligibility by completing the FAFSA, just like any Pell applicant. The program must be offered by an accredited institution, run roughly 150 to 599 clock hours over about 8 to 15 weeks, and be approved as Workforce-Pell-eligible in your state.
