Workforce Pell does not cover AI and machine learning programs as a category; the governor and the U.S. Department of Education approve individual programs that run at least 8 but fewer than 15 weeks and 150 to 599 clock hours. As of October 9, 2026, the U.S. Department of Education had approved 21 Workforce Pell programs at 7 colleges in 6 states (Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, Texas, North Carolina and Florida), mostly in healthcare, public safety and the skilled trades. The only information-technology program on that list is Metropolitan Community College's CompTIA Tech+ with Google IT Support program in Nebraska.
